I stopped at this location, the view of Whiteface from the Harrietstown Cemetery, about 30 minutes before sundown. My intent was to paint a nocturne, defined in the dictionary as a painting done after sundown. I figured I would rough in the landscape now, then as soon as the sun went down, capture whatever the effects were of the last light of the day . The mountains were bluish grey when I got there. But as the sun set, it momentarily peeked out from under the overcast clouds of the day and lit up the mountains with magenta light. I captured this as quickly as I could, painting until I no longer had enough light to see. It's always a treat to experience something like this - oh, and there was a rainbow.
